Sometimes there is so much information or graphics too large that not everything will fit on the screen at one time.  If this occurs, as it often does on the Internet, the SCROLL BAR is used to move the page up and down so that all of the information may be viewed.

Scroll bars are usually located on the right side of the screen; however, sometimes they are found at the bottom if the information is too wide to fit on the screen.  Clicking the arrow that points up allows you to see information further up the page.  Clicking the arrow that points down allows you to see information further down the page.  This effect can also be achieved by pressing the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard.

Use the scroll bar to move the screen down past the picture George Washington for more information.

George Washington

First President (1789-1797)

Useful tip:

Scroll bars are very useful in determining the length of a page.  Here's the general rule to follow:

(1) If the bar between the two arrows of the scroll bar is long, then the page is short.

(2) If the bar between the two arrows of the scroll bar is short, then the page is long.
